Final Blog Reflection
After
spending three weeks straight working on music, it's safe to say that I feel
somewhat tired of the process. I love making music but it'll be nice to take a
break for a bit. In my current state, I think I could still make good music, I
just don't think I'd enjoy it as much. However, we still have work to do and
music to make throughout the summer, so we are not finished just yet. Working
with King and Angus these past couple weeks has made me feel a lot more
confident in my music skills, especially when I’m creating with them. We’ve established
a super effective workflow that allows us to create good music without making
it feel too much like a tiring process. Our chemistry is also very good. We are
not afraid to be extremely honest, even if it hurts, to each other. This allows
us to work like a well oiled machine, and we can be extremely effective in our
communication. I have no doubt that whenever I work with these two in the future
we will be able to make great music. We just have to keep doing it and finding
ways to get better. In the future I think I’d like to see where we can go in
terms of marketing and advertising our music; how are we going to make our
music reach as many people as possible? I want to see how much of an impact on
the music community we can make. I also want to be able to make music that
people can enjoy just as much as I enjoy some of the music I listen to on
Spotify. During the project, I learned how to collaborate effectively with
people when making music. Specifically other musically talented people. I’ve
definitely made music with other people before, but not with anybody whom I
felt like could match my skill. I always felt held back in some ways when
making music for people who didn’t have any knowledge of music production. Things
were different for this project though, and it felt refreshing to have somebody
that wouldn’t hold me back. Perhaps the best thing I got from my mentor was her
reaction when we showed her our song. That memory I have will always be in my
mind. I was also extremely appreciative of the freedom we had. Whenever we didn’t
feel like doing something, we could simply choose to move to a different
portion of the project. We didn’t need to stick to anything like we would have
to at school, and that was very nice. It’s how I’d like to be able to live in
the future I think.
Donovan, I loved reading your blogs about your music making process. I'm glad that you enjoyed the freedom and the creative liberties that this project allowed you and your group! - Mrs. Mullen
